The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance for home heating and cooling, energy crisis intervention and low-cost weatherization to almost 5 million low-income households, including the elderly, people with disabilities, families with young children, the working poor, and those making the difficult transition from welfare to work.
